Hair Loss Therapy for Men

Because hair loss has no direct impact on physical health, it often doesn’t get the attention it deserves from medical professionals. That’s where we differ.

Facts About Hair Loss in Men

  1. Hair loss is frequently caused by low thyroid.
  2. Hair loss can also be caused by nutritional deficiencies.
  3. Some of your testosterone routinely converts to a hormone called DHT (which can be thought of as a stronger form of testosterone). In some men, elevated DHT can cause hair loss. However, only men with DHT-sensitive hair follicles (usually due to heredity) will lose hair as a consequence of elevated DHT.
  4. Imbalanced cortisol levels from stress can cause hair loss in some men.

Method of Treatment

  1. We check thyroid levels first. If thyroid levels are low, our physicians can prescribe treatment. If low thyroid is the root cause, hair loss typically stops 1-2 weeks after levels are optimized. Many men will see regrowth.
  2. Since anemia often causes hair loss, we check iron levels. Our physicians will provide instructions for iron supplementation if you are iron deficient.
  3. If desired, our physicians can provide a list of supplements for improving hair quality and texture.
  4. If adrenal dysfunction is a factor, our physicians can provide treatment for imbalanced cortisol.
  5. If DHT sensitivity is suspected, our physicians can prescribe medication and/or recommend supplements that slow the rate at which testosterone converts to DHT.

The solution to hair loss depends upon the cause. We use process of elimination and years of experience to uncover that root cause (or causes). This strategic approach to better aging is what we bring to the table. Let’s figure this out.
