Testosterone researchers can’t match our results because they use different treatment protocols

Sometimes, it seems like the media has a bias against testosterone treatment. Take this recent headline from The Associated Press: “Testosterone gel no help to men’s memories.” The article discusses a study primarily funded by the National Institute on Aging, which recently concluded that treatment with testosterone gel has no effect on memory or mental function. The same study also concluded that testosterone gel can improve sexual performance, mood, energy levels, and bone density, but these findings were not the focus of the article.

If you’re trying to learn about the safety and effectiveness of testosterone therapy, these kinds of articles can be confusing to say the least. But before you judge Renew Youth’s™ testosterone replacement program, it’s important to understand the key differences between our treatment protocol and the protocols used in your typical testosterone replacement study, and how these differences make our treatment safer and more effective.

Consideration for Multiple Hormones

Most studies focus solely on replacing testosterone. While this is necessary for scientific rigor, it isn’t the best way to treat all the symptoms of low T. Take memory loss for example. It is not at all surprising that testosterone gel did not improve men’s memories, since testosterone is not the only hormone required for optimal mental function. At Renew Youth™, we take a multifaceted approach to treating memory loss and other andropause symptoms, including treatments to balance all your vital hormones as well as nutritional support and lifestyle advice. No responsible doctor should treat testosterone alone, as this could result in side effects.

Personalized Dosages

In most testosterone studies, men are given a standardized dosage of testosterone. Unfortunately, this will invariably result in some men not getting enough testosterone. Healthy testosterone is a range, not a single number, and different men will need different dosages to get to the spot in the range where they feel their best. At Renew Youth™, we always test men’s testosterone (as well as other hormones) and then prescribe personalized dosages that can be adjusted as treatment progresses.

Gel vs Injections

The way in which testosterone is administered can have a big impact on the safety and effectiveness of treatment. Testosterone gel is a good delivery method, but it is not as good as testosterone injections. Injections create a reservoir of the hormone in muscle tissue, which will then be doled out into the bloodstream in a slow and steady manner very similar to the body’s natural processes. This avoids the peaks and valleys in testosterone levels—and the related side effects—that can occur with other delivery methods. At Renew Youth™, almost all of our clients use self-administered testosterone injections for their treatment.
